An Autumn harvest

This Autumn, the art studio has been brimming with several oil paintings on the easel.

The season has a beautiful colour palette, and I wanted to capture some of the colours of nature with this still life of pumpkins, an aubergine, and some autumn leaves from our garden. With a variety of shapes on a narrow canvas, I aimed to create a harmonious scene of the vegetables leaning in towards the centre, with accents of colour echoed throughout the painting. I painted this directly from life and fairly quickly, capturing the shapes and colours. I was pleased with the outcome and decided to leave it without more detail, and instead create another, more detailed painting.

As I wanted to leave the first still life in a more unrealised state, this is beginning of the second painting, which I plan to paint in a more realistic, detailed way. I especially want to capture the beautiful blue and purple hues of the aubergine.

Keep an eye out for the final painting…
